HOBBS AND SHAW IS FURIOUSLY ENTERTAINING – PHIL ME IN

Review with Phil Martin – Phil Me In on Film

The film Hobbs and Shaw is a one off film based on the characters from The Fast And The Furious franchise. The film is directed by David Leitch who also directed the original John Wick film along with Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2 all of which I enjoyed tremendously. – (Phil Me In)hobbs and shaw movie poster

The premise is simple, easy to follow, and you don’t have to be familiar with the storyline from the franchise to understand the film. Dwayne Johnson plays special agent Luke Hobbs who is forced to team up with his nemesis Deckard Shaw to get a virus back called the snowflake virus; that can cause global harm and they must take down criminal mastermind Brixton played by Idris Elba in the process.

With the help of new addition to the franchise Vanessa Kirby; playing Shaw’s younger sister, the two must work together, and overcome a great deal of obstacles along the way.
The film is entertaining and serves its purpose in doing so.
The banter amongst the characters is over the top and hilarious its obvious the guys enjoyed working together as it shows in their delivery.

Fans of the franchise will enjoy this film and fans of simple fun action films will be delighted as well.
The common themes of Family first and working together to overcome adversity is once again brought to the forefront

ISSUES WITH THE FILM

1. The length is about 20 minutes too long as they could have trimmed some of the slower scenes to bring it in under 2 hrs.

2. Idris Elba is not a memorable villain in the franchise and based on his acting ability he’s given basically a throw away character.

Overall grade 2 1/2 or a C+ 🌟
