Allison Walters AKA Buddha is a UL graduate & was an active member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority who still lives in Lafayette & is battling stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. All proceeds of this event will help pay her medical expenses for her extensive surgery and chemo, as well as recovery needs, all while raising awareness for Ovarian Cancer Event: 80’s theme 5K/1 mile Run/Walk When: Sunday, September 14, 2014 START TIME: 9am Location: Girard Park through the Oil Center Awards for age groups, biggest team and various costume awards. Read How This Started Here: For a few weeks Allison suffered with stomach issues and some back pain. After a visit to the ED, it was discovered she had some large masses on her ovaries. After further testing, they discovered she had some fluid on her lungs and in her abdomen and her CA125 count was high. Allison had the fluid on her lungs drained and tested for cancer cells. PRAISE GOD, there was no sign of cancer in her lungs. Her fight however, has just begun. On April 22, she saw a gyno/oncology specialist in New Orleans. He informed the family that the tumor was very large and growing into other organs. Allison will be having major surgery in Lafayette in the upcoming weeks. She will undertake a complete hysterectomy as well as reconstructive surgery to other nearby organs and areas in the pelvic region. Her recovery will be lengthy and we know she will appreciate all the thoughts and well wishes.
