Professional Boxers Get Ready To Bring Their Own Fireworks This Saturday!
The date is this Saturday at 7:30pm; just over a week into the new year on January 10th, and the collective resolution of the natives of south Louisiana should be to make “Fireworks Flying. Fireworks Flying” will be the latest installment of premium high quality boxing action brought to you by “Bad” Chad’s Boxncar Promotions and will be delivered for your viewing pleasure live at the Evangeline Downs Casino in Opelousas, La.
Fans will get to ring in the new year while watching somebody get their bell rung. Will that somebody be the undefeated Ronald Rivas (3-0)? Rivas will come into the ring with Josh Ross who has an interesting 3 draws in his 4 fights as a professional. Even more interesting is that Ross has only been up against undefeated combatants. Will Ross finally break more than just even? Or will Ronald end up “kissing his sister” and only be able to pull out yet another draw against the scrappy West Monroe mauler in Ross?
Then the lightening young 121 pound super bantamweights take to center stage when Rahkeam Parker goes toe to toe with Keithlan Franklin. Franklin aka “ShoeShine” will look to erase the Vaseline shine from Rahkeam’s face and in preparation for his monstrous debut he has trained with former multiple world title challenger Jason Papillion (39-15-2). Papillion has seen the likes of Ronald “Winky” Wright, Kassim Ouma and Roman Karmazin to name a few and can offer many insights on the sweet science.
The heavy hitters come into play next and one will go down at the downs. Dwight “Killa” Gibson will step up to the plate after absolutely demolishing his last two opponents. He will look to take on one of boxing’s versions of an Iron Man in Danny Batchelder (30-9-1). This will only be Dwight’s 3rd fight and promoter “Bad” Chad had to have a lengthy conversation with the athletic committee to agree to this contest. Gibson also pleaded his case and now the fight is a go and you should go and make sure these efforts weren’t done in vain.
Then who will end up on the winning end of this welterweight slugfest between Justin Brunetti and Devon Adams? Devon “Da Hurricane” Adams has used category 5 punching power in his fights having all of his wins coming by way of knockout. But can Justin Brunetti navigate through the eye of Da Hurricane? Brunetti hasn’t swallowed defeat in almost 12 solid years and on January 10th he doesn’t want a loss to become an acquired taste.
A name that is synonymous with great fights at the Evangeline Downs is “Blazin and Amazin” Todd Manuel (9-4-1) who fought 5 times in the last year and didn’t suffer a single setback. However he will face his toughest test of his career, Tom Howard (8-1). Todd will serve at the same caliber as Tom and will provide him with his toughest contest as well. Howard is also scheduled for another boxing match a month later in Mississippi. Will Tom look past Todd and end up looking up at Todd from the floor of the canvas? Or will Manuel work his magic that so many have seen him use at the Evangeline Downs before.
As most of you already know, Mason Menard is not going to fight on January 10th at Evangeline Downs, I am working very hard to replace his fight with another, will keep everyone posted on the outcome. Mason has suffered a hand injury over 2 years ago, and we were able to get injections, get it cracked, physical therapy and he was able to continue to fight. In his July fight his hand suffered great harm, we were unable to get his hand back to a performing level. His fight had to be removed from the card, NOW! He will have surgery week after next, you can help out for the surgery by attending the fights, you will still get a great night of fights and with the additional ticket sales, we would like to put the money towards his surgery. You don’t even have to come, just pick up and pay for ticket, that way we can get him into surgery and get him back to 100%. Your support will be greatly appreciated and the hand surgeon said he would be able to start punching lightly within 3 weeks of the surgery. So. We ask that you PLEASE help out in this case as we can see his return and as always a great fighter we all love to watch fight. Just think? He hasn’t been at 100% for more then 2 years, IMAGINE with your help, what he will be like at 100%? That’s right, you have an opportunity to help his career to continue to move forward! – Aaron Portier – aaron.portier@selu.edu
