After just enjoying a great hour of great seafood at Don’s Seafood Hut on Johnston Street in Lafayette, LA we learned quite a bit after peaking to Foundry who is just in from the Las Vegas area to play with special guest Kelly Keeling this Saturday Night opening for Firehouse on stage at the Cajundome Convention Center. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and they are ready to hit the stage nd Rock Lafayette, LA. The doors open at 8pm this Saturday so plan for a great night. The band really enjoyed a great night of local seafood (Char-Grilled Oysters. Catfish, and more) with of course great drinks a little wine & amazing local bread bread pudding.
– The Deacon of Metal Colby Foreman was able to do a brief Q & A with Marc Bratten to welcome them to the area again as well as introduce them to many new fans on the way. Read more below.
Q1. For people not familiar, give a brief history of the band, and describe what you think it sounds like.
*Foundry was formed in 2015 by Marc Brattin and Kelly Keeling. We know each other from being born-n-raised in Lafayette. Foundry sounds like a combination of a new (active rock) and old (classic rock) band that somehow sounds like no one else. Familiar yet fresh…
Q2. What are your influences?
*Everything and Everyone – who’s ever rocked! 😉
Q3. How has Foundry’s music evolved since its inception?
*Foundry has graduated from a classic rock sound to an active rock sound. Our new music (releasing 1.9.19) will be evident of this. You’ll hear more Godsmack, Shinedown than Black Sabbath, Soundgarden.
Q4. What’s been some of the most challenging issues being a working band in today’s music industry?
*Selling music.. is no more… Today you have to give the music away to get fans and get them to come to your live events. It all comes down to the music – it must be great!
Q5. What’s been your favorite venue to play so far?
*The Joint @ Hard Rock – Las Vegas. Nothing beats 4000 people cheering when on-stage playing your music.
Q6. How often do you get to play?
*We only perform 10-12 shows annually. So not that many. We’re really just getting started even though the group was formed 3 years ago. We believe with the release of our new music, we’ll get on a tour of some sort; 30, 60, 90 dates in 2019.
Q7. What differences are there between playing your hometown vs. some city you haven’t played yet?
*Big difference.. When you start performing in other cities, you really get to see your worth/value in the market. And it can be way-up and way-down. But that’s how you find out if people like you or not. Can be very eye-opening! In our home-base (Las Vegas), people love us. The irony is ½ our crowd are visiting from somewhere else. The tourist element plays a big roll in this.
Q8. How did you hook up with (new vocalist) Mark Boals?
*Mark Boals was already in the band as our bassist. Kelly (Keeling) and I picked him for that role cause we needed a bassist that could sing good. So when Kelly retired so-to-speak, Boals jumped at the opportunity to front Foundry as lead singer.
Q9. What elements of your music make it accessible, or “mainstream?”
*It’s familiar and new sounding. Plus, the songs are good. We write songs from the heart and move people with our music. And yes, they have a popular/mainstream sound and structure.
Q10. Where can we find your music?
*Everywhere music is distributed; YouTube, Spotify, Pandora… You will no doubt hear Foundry on the Radio and Sirius XM in 2019 – Turn It Up!!!
Q11. Tell us the funniest story from playing with Foundry.
*There’s no 1 moment or time worthy of a story… We’re a mostly serious bunch of guys. We do some clownin’ around too – behind the scenes mostly. Foundry is a fun band to “be in” The guys are fun to hang with, the music is fun too. Give it a listen!
